Rattle 'N Roll™
$11.73
Product ID # 1270
We humans love to offer entertainment for our marsupial mates
that provokes a bit of a challenge and requires some problem solving
skills. And acrylic toys are especially awesome for sugar
gliders because they are quick and easy to clean - a nice feature
since some of our fuzzy friends can sometimes be a bit messy.
With safety being our ultimate priority, we often find ourselves
faced with plenty of our own challenges and problem solving issues
when it comes to finding suitable toys. After all, there are
lots of sugar glider toys available, but we find many to be poorly
constructed, unsafe or simply not stimulating enough for our clever
li'l pals.
As always with SunCoast Sugar Gliders' "favorite
things", this toy is completely constructed of non-toxic parts,
offers stimulation to your sugar glider, and even looks really cool
in the habitat! As your glider climbs from one end to the
other, the toy "rocks" and the crystal ball rolls over the
middle ring to the other side, creating a "rattle" noise
that starts the whole cycle over again. If the Rattle 'N Roll action
gets fast enough, the bell starts to ring!
The Rattle 'N Roll toy is made of sturdy acrylic. At the top
is 1-1/2" nickel-plated steel (NPS) clip attached to a sturdy
4-1/2" NPS chain; on each end of the chain is a heavy-duty
triangular-shaped link. There are three acrylic circles sitting parallel to one another,
with a one inch separation between each. The center circle has
a 3-1/2" diameter stretching across the outside ends and just
over 2-1/2" across the inside. Hanging from the bottom of
the central circle on a triangular NPS link is a colorful little
jingly bell for your glider to ring-a-ding-ding. On each side
of the center circle are two smaller circles; each has a 2-7/8"
diameter from end to end on the outside of the circle, with a
2" diameter on the inside. The circles are stationary, so
your sugar glider can climb across the circles with stability and
ease.
The three circles are firmly encased within a flat, wide, oval
shaped acrylic shape. It almost resembles a football, but the
ends are a bit more blunt than a football's.
We like to save the best for last, so here it goes! Inside
the 3 rings is a clear acrylic ball that rolls both horizontally and
vertically. For you mid-century modern cats, this ball really
"shakes, rattles and rolls"! If you are a U2 fan,
you might say it "rattles and hums" - yuk, yuk, yuk
(sorry, the humor here is rapidly degrading...) Anyway, the
little rattle ball is full of functionality and it is a real hoot to
watch sugar gliders trying to figure out what to do with it!
Encased inside the clear ball are 4 little pearlized acrylic
beads that move about freely. In addition, there is a uniquely
shaped thingy that kinda looks like a couple of ceiling fan blades
mounted vertically instead of horizontally. Another way to
describe the unique thingy is as a couple of bow ties connected at
the middle to form an almost flower-like shape. The thingy
part is stable, so the only moving parts inside the circle are the
little balls. Check out the pic on the left to get a closer
look.
For some of us who are older than we can count, we recall having
a toy as a tot called the Fisher Price Corn Popper
that had a big clear circle with colorful balls inside that moved
all around when you pushed the stick. Well, this sugar glider
toy reminds us a little of that. There are valid reasons why
there are so many kids' toys available with loose beads running around
inside a rolling ball. In part, it is because these actions
help with with early sensory and motor development. The
brightly colored beads bounce and rattle, which encourage eye tracking and auditory development.
And although we cannot make claims that the same is true for sugar
gliders, we have noticed they seem to find the stimuli mesmerizing
and entertaining. By the way, that Corn Popper rig, which was
created back in the days WAY before the internet, cell phones,
computers, MTV - heck, maybe even before air conditioning - is
actually still being made!
Acrylic toys are very strong, non porous and super easy to
clean. Our Wheel of Terror
and Curlygig are also acrylic toys we
offer that would make great complements to the Rattle 'N Roll
toy. It is important to offer variety to keep your sugar gliders'
habitat a place of never-ending fun and stimulation. Remember, shipping is $6 per order no matter how many
items you order, so be sure to take advantage and stock up today!
